Billings, Montana – Drivers across central and southern Montana, including along I-90 and US-191, should brace for slippery, snow-covered roads and dangerous travel through Saturday morning as a winter storm system delivers widespread snowfall and bitter cold.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, snow begins tonight in the north and spreads south on Friday, with totals ranging from 2 to 5 inches in lower elevations. Areas like Billings, Red Lodge, and Hysham can expect 3–4 inches, while higher terrain near Judith Gap (US-191) and Sheridan (I-90) will face blowing snow and whiteout conditions. Wind chills will plummet as the coldest air of the season settles in from Friday night into Tuesday morning.

Travel may be especially difficult post-holiday, with limited visibility and slick pavement likely through mountain passes and open highway stretches. Motorists should check MDT road conditions and delay non-essential travel during peak snowfall hours.

Colder temperatures and potential icy patches will linger even after the snow ends Saturday morning. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
