Billings, Montana – Rain and thunderstorms are set to develop within hours across eastern Montana, with conditions turning colder and more hazardous overnight as snow begins to fall.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, scattered showers will increase through the afternoon, with isolated thunderstorms possible between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Some storms may produce brief heavy rain and small hail, especially near Billings, Miles City, and Sheridan.

Rainfall totals between 0.25 and 0.50 inches are expected across much of the region, which could create slick roads during heavier downpours. By late tonight, colder air will move in, causing rain to mix with and change to wet snow, particularly east of Billings.

Communities along I-90, including Livingston and Billings, may see rapidly changing conditions overnight, with reduced visibility and slushy roadways developing by early Friday morning.

Residents should remain alert for changing conditions, especially if traveling late tonight. Keep headlights on during rain and prepare for possible slick spots by sunrise Friday.

Snow impacts are expected to continue into early Friday before gradually tapering, but additional advisories may be issued as temperatures drop.
