Billings, Montana – Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to flare across central and eastern Montana this afternoon, with storms packing up to 60 mph wind gusts and hail up to quarter size possible through 10 p.m. Saturday. Outdoor events and travel may be disrupted, particularly near Billings, Miles City, and along I-94 and I-90 corridors.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, the greatest risk for severe weather will occur between 2 and 10 p.m. across southeastern and south-central Montana. A Level 2 (out of 5) risk has been issued for areas including Ekalaka, Broadus, Baker, and parts of Custer and Carter Counties, where scattered strong storms could develop and intensify.

Cities like Billings, Red Lodge, Livingston, and Roundup may see isolated storms this afternoon, though the primary focus remains east of Billings. Wind gusts may down tree limbs or power lines, and hail could cause localized damage. Rainfall may also briefly reduce visibility on highways, including I-94 and U.S. 212.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, monitor alerts, and identify nearby indoor shelters if spending time outdoors. Storms are expected to weaken and shift eastward by late evening.

More updates may follow if the risk increases or storms become more organized.
