Billings, MT – Snow and 45 mph wind gusts are creating slick, low-visibility travel across the Bighorn Mountains this morning, with the toughest conditions unfolding along US-14 through the higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. MST Wednesday for the Pryor and Northern Bighorn Mountains in Montana and the Northeast Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming, including Story and Burgess Junction. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow will accumulate, with the bulk of the snowfall falling through late morning.

Winds gusting as high as 45 mph are producing blowing snow, especially along exposed ridges and mountain passes. Visibility may drop suddenly in open areas, making travel hazardous for high-profile vehicles and those towing trailers.

Road crews continue to monitor conditions, and drivers are urged to slow down and check Wyoming and Montana 511 for updated road reports before heading into the mountains. Snow will taper early this afternoon, but gusty winds could keep pockets of blowing snow in place through late day. Additional advisories may be issued if bands redevelop.
