Tallahassee, Florida – Dangerous heat is set to blanket the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend region Sunday, with heat index values expected to reach a sweltering 108° from noon to 8 p.m., threatening the health of anyone outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Heat Advisory is in effect across much of North Florida and south-central Georgia, including key cities like Tallahassee, Panama City, Destin, Quincy, Valdosta, and Bainbridge. The advisory covers both coastal and inland counties, impacting commuters and outdoor workers throughout Leon, Walton, Bay, Jefferson, Lowndes, and Brooks counties, among others.

Residents should limit time outside, drink plenty of fluids, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Schools and businesses with outdoor activities are urged to reschedule for early morning or evening hours. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning for anyone working outside.

Heat illnesses such as exhaustion or heat stroke are possible with these conditions. Wear loose, light clothing, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.

This dangerous heat is expected to last through Sunday evening, but more advisories could follow if high temperatures persist. Stay tuned to local alerts for updates.
