Macon, GA – A driver allegedly wanted on a theft-related warrant was arrested in Bibb County today after deputies say he was caught speeding at 90 mph along Eisenhower Parkway. The traffic stop led to the recovery of a stolen gun reportedly modified with an illegal device designed to make it fully automatic.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, H.E.A.T. Unit Sgt. Reginald Tillman spotted the vehicle traveling more than twice the posted 40-mph speed limit. After conducting a traffic stop, Sgt. Tillman learned the driver was allegedly wanted on a theft by receiving stolen property warrant out of Dooly County.
Deputies reported that a Glock 19 handgun was found inside the vehicle, concealed beneath a seat. The firearm included an extended magazine and what investigators described as an illegal conversion device commonly called a “switch.” Such devices, according to law enforcement, can modify a handgun to fire fully automatic.
Sheriff’s officials said database checks through NCIC and GCIC confirmed the handgun was stolen. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that its H.E.A.T. Unit remains focused on proactive enforcement to address reckless driving, speeding, and the growing presence of illegally modified firearms across Middle Georgia. Eisenhower Parkway, a busy Macon corridor for commuters and commercial traffic, has been a particular focus area for deputies responding to high-speed violations.
No injuries were reported, and additional charges related to the stolen firearm and illegal conversion device are expected to be reviewed. The Sheriff’s Office said more information will be released as the case proceeds.
