Macon, GA – A Bibb County Sheriff’s deputy arrested an allegedly intoxicated driver in downtown Macon after observing the vehicle traveling the wrong way on Third Street, authorities said.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, H.E.A.T. Unit Deputy Dalton Palmer initiated a traffic stop on a Toyota driver from McDonough after witnessing the car driving against traffic lanes. Deputies reported the driver ignored lights and sirens before pulling into a parking space and attempting to exit the car while still wearing a seatbelt.

The sheriff’s office said the man appeared impaired and was unable to complete field sobriety tests. A breathalyzer test reportedly showed the driver was over the legal limit. The suspect then argued with Deputy Palmer before being taken into custody.

The driver was transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center. Deputies said he faces charges related to driving on the wrong side of the road, open container violations, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office shared photos of the arrest on social media, highlighting the actions of Deputy Palmer and the H.E.A.T. Unit in removing an impaired driver from the roadway.
