Punxsutawney, PA – Groundhog Day is here, and all eyes are on Punxsutawney Phil. Will he see his shadow and predict six more weeks of winter?
According to The Weather Channel, cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper-20s are expected Sunday morning. This could prevent Phil from spotting his shadow. Over the last six years, Phil has predicted an early spring three times. If the trend continues, spring could arrive sooner than expected.
Experts note that Phil’s accuracy is debatable. A University of Waterloo study found his predictions correct about 32% of the time. However, history shows he has followed patterns before.
Meanwhile, Canada’s Wiarton Willie has predicted early spring for four consecutive years. FanDuel Ontario odds suggest a 66.1% chance he will do it again.
Groundhog Day enthusiasts and bettors eagerly await the results. Whether winter drags on or spring arrives early, tradition remains strong.
