Albuquerque, NM – A sweeping crime operation across Bernalillo County has led to over 1,400 arrests and the seizure of more than 116,000 fentanyl pills, according to the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office.

The initiative, dubbed “Operation Route 66,” launched in February 2025 and brings together multiple law enforcement agencies including the New Mexico State Police, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department, New Mexico Corrections Probation & Parole, and the Albuquerque Police Department.

According to District Attorney Sam Bregman, the coordinated effort aims to combat violent crime and drug trafficking in the Albuquerque metro area. As of October 16, 2025, authorities report 1,463 total arrests, including 15 suspects allegedly connected to homicides.

Investigators also reported seizing 5.7 kilograms of methamphetamine, 4.3 kilograms of heroin, 1 kilogram of cocaine, and 143 firearms. Additionally, 136 stolen vehicles were recovered during the months-long operation.

Court data shows 585 new felony cases filed, with 55 convictions secured so far. Another 934 offenders were already under supervision at the time of arrest, reflecting what officials call “a critical push against repeat offenders.”

District Attorney Bregman said the agencies involved remain committed to tackling the region’s violent crime and drug crisis: “Together, we’re working to make our communities safer.”
