MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – A Bowman man faces drug trafficking charges after Berkeley County deputies reportedly discovered methamphetamine in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Summerville Thursday night.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, deputies with the C.O.P.E. (Community Oriented Police Enforcement) Team were patrolling Strathmore Road near Jedburg Road when they observed a vehicle driving without headlights and with a defective brake light. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as David E. Myers, 50, of Bowman.

Deputies said Myers did not have a valid driver’s license. During the roadside interview, officers reportedly noticed suspicious behavior from Myers and his passenger, prompting a request for a K9 unit.

K9 Nash responded and alerted to the vehicle, leading to a probable cause search. Deputies say they found approximately 28.58 grams of methamphetamine inside. Myers was arrested and booked into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center on trafficking charges for possessing between 28 and 100 grams of methamphetamine.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said the C.O.P.E. Team focuses on strengthening community relationships while addressing crime through enforcement and intelligence-led policing. The investigation remains ongoing.
