Moncks Corner, South Carolina – A vehicle pursuit in Sangaree led Berkeley County deputies to seize more than 120 grams of fentanyl and arrest two people, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Duane Lewis, deputies were patrolling the area of North Main Street near Longstreet Street on Jan. 20 when they responded to a reported call of shots heard nearby. During the patrol, a deputy observed a white pickup truck stopped on Turtle Pond Road with its brake lights illuminated.

When the deputy approached, the vehicle allegedly began to drive away. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver continued through multiple roadways, prompting a pursuit. During the chase, deputies reported observing several items being thrown from the vehicle.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped beneath the Interstate 26 overpass on Nexton Parkway. Deputies took the driver and passenger into custody without further incident.

Authorities identified the suspects as Shawn Paul Driggers, 46, of Summerville, and Shelby Anne Pyatt, 34, of Ladson. Deputies reportedly recovered multiple discarded items along the pursuit route and additional narcotics inside the vehicle.

Investigators said three clear baggies containing a light brown, rock-like substance and one bag containing pink and white powder field-tested presumptively positive for fentanyl, with a combined weight of approximately 123.2 grams. Deputies also recovered a bag containing about 3.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine and another bag holding 17 multicolored units believed to be MDMA, also known as ecstasy. Approximately $1,799 in U.S. currency and a cellular phone were seized.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession of MDMA in excess of 15 dosage units. Driggers was additionally charged with failure to stop for blue lights and sirens.

The case remains under investigation. All charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

For commuters and young workers, the pursuit temporarily affected traffic near the I-26 and Nexton Parkway area.
