Moncks Corner, SC – A Summerville man is facing multiple charges after Berkeley County deputies allegedly found methamphetamine inside his vehicle during a mid-November traffic stop. The arrest announcement was released Tuesday by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were patrolling the South Live Oak and Bluebird Lane area on November 15 when they stopped a vehicle for defective equipment. The driver, later identified as Michael Kevin Driggers, 50, of Stephanie Circle, allegedly told deputies he did not have a driver’s license. A female passenger was also inside the vehicle.
Deputies say preliminary observations led them to request a K9 unit. K9 Karak and his handler conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle, and the K9 allegedly alerted to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent probable-cause search uncovered two clear plastic baggies that deputies say contained methamphetamine.
During the stop, the sheriff’s office reports that the driver attempted to identify himself as “John Driggers.” Deputies determined the photo associated with that name did not match him. After further questioning, the driver allegedly admitted his real name was Michael Kevin Driggers, stating the first name he provided belonged to his brother.
Driggers was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine (Second Offense), stemming from a previous conviction for the same charge in June 2021. He was also charged with Providing False Information to Police.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding bond or court dates.
Residents in Berkeley County, Summerville, and the surrounding Charleston metro who observed the traffic stop or noticed increased police presence in the area are encouraged to share what they saw in the comments.
