Moncks Corner, SC – More than 50 dogs and puppies were rescued this week from what authorities described as “inhumane” conditions in Berkeley County. Sheriff Duane Lewis announced the arrest of a Goose Creek man following an investigation into suspected dogfighting and animal cruelty.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, 42-year-old Quentin Roderick Reid of Reese Court was arrested Wednesday and charged with 50 counts of Rabies Control Chapter Violation and 49 counts of Ill Treatment of Animals with Torture.
Deputies began investigating in July after receiving a citizen tip about possible dogfighting activity in the Goose Creek area. Search warrants and a drone-assisted operation uncovered more than 50 dogs living in deplorable conditions, along with evidence consistent with organized dogfighting.
Authorities also seized 118 pounds of marijuana, smaller quantities of crack cocaine and powder cocaine, three stolen firearms, four additional weapons, narcotic pills, and nearly $3,800 in cash. A 2021 RAM Diesel Cummings truck was also confiscated.
“Animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Berkeley County,” Sheriff Lewis said in a statement, adding that the swift response allowed deputies to save the animals and bring the suspect to justice.
Reid is also facing multiple drug and weapons charges, including trafficking marijuana and possession of stolen firearms.
Officials urge anyone who suspects animal neglect or cruelty to contact the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.
