Corvallis, OR – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man found deceased in the Willamette River on November 29, 2025, as Jonathan Avery Smith, 34, of Albany, officials confirmed Wednesday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Smith was identified after investigators received tips from the public following the release of tattoo images on December 9. His family was promptly notified after confirmation. Smith had not been reported missing before the discovery.

Deputies said Smith’s body was recovered near river mile 122, on the west side of the Willamette River by Hyak Park, after a passerby spotted something floating in the water. Authorities believe he had been in the river for several days before recovery.
