Fowler, IN – The Benton County Board of Commissioners has officially terminated the countywide burn ban that had been in effect due to drought conditions, according to an executive order adopted October 19, 2025.
After consulting with local fire chiefs and the Benton County Emergency Management Agency, commissioners determined that the conditions prompting the emergency declaration no longer exist, allowing residents to resume open burning activities.
The order lifts restrictions on open fires originally implemented earlier this fall, but county officials continue to urge residents to use extreme caution when engaging in outdoor burning. Windy or dry conditions can still pose fire risks, even after the ban’s removal.
The decision, signed by Board Chairman Phil McGinnis, Commissioner John Gick, and Commissioner Shawn Leuck, was attested by Auditor Beth Budreau and filed with the Benton County Clerk.
Officials emphasized that public safety remains a top priority and encouraged residents to stay informed on local weather and fire advisories as the fall season continues.
