Authorities said the crash occurred around 7:03 p.m. on January 10, 2026, near the intersection of Olson Road and Sheffield. A 2018 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 19-year-old Trevor W. Tosh of Belvidere, was reportedly heading south when it entered the northbound lane to pass another vehicle. During the maneuver, the Jeep struck a pedestrian identified as Anthony G. Tzemopoulos, 41, also of Belvidere.
According to the sheriff’s report, Tzemopoulos was pronounced dead at the scene. Tosh sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Javon Bea Hospital for treatment.
Following an investigation and review by the Boone County State’s Attorney’s Office, Tosh was charged with Aggravated DUI – Alcohol Causing Death (Class 2 Felony) and DUI-Alcohol (Class A Misdemeanor). Officials note that a Class 2 felony carries a penalty of 3 to 14 years in prison, while a Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in jail. Tosh remains in custody at the Boone County Jail.
