Below-Freezing Temps Hit Florida’s Nature Coast: Prepare for a Cold Week

Tampa, FL — North winds are set to bring an unusual chill to Florida this week, with freezing temperatures expected along the Nature Coast and parts of Tampa Bay by Tuesday morning. Residents near U.S. 19 should prepare for lows dropping to 32°F and below in several areas.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday’s highs will reach the upper 60s under sunny skies, but temperatures will plummet to the low 40s overnight. By Tuesday morning, areas like Gainesville and Crystal River may see lows as cold as 32°F. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, with values dipping into the high 30s.

The cold snap will persist through midweek, with highs struggling to reach the mid-60s on Tuesday. Overnight lows are forecast to drop to around 40°F for Tampa and as low as 35°F in surrounding regions. Frost advisories are possible for parts of west-central Florida.

By Thursday, the region will warm slightly, with highs climbing to the low 70s under sunny skies. Winds will shift to the southwest, helping temperatures recover further by the weekend. Friday and Saturday will bring highs in the mid-to-upper 70s, offering a return to milder conditions.

Residents should protect sensitive plants, check on vulnerable neighbors, and ensure pets have warm shelter. Drivers on U.S. 19 and I-75 are advised to exercise caution during the early morning hours when frost and reduced visibility may pose hazards.
