Belmont County, OH – A routine traffic stop earlier this week led to a major drug investigation spanning multiple counties in Eastern Ohio, resulting in the seizure of large quantities of suspected narcotics and prescription pills.

According to the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Wednesday, December 10, during which they found occupant Hashim Dunlap allegedly in possession of approximately four pounds of suspected methamphetamine. Following the discovery, Belmont County investigators immediately contacted the Columbiana County Drug Task Force to assist with the expanding investigation.

Investigators quickly identified a residence at 341 E. 8th Street in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, as a suspected stash house frequently visited by Dunlap. Authorities believe the residence was being used to store and distribute additional illegal drugs.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff Brian McLaughlin and the Columbiana County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the East Liverpool residence. Agents were assisted by East Liverpool Police Department officers and K9 Jimmy with the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office.

During the search, investigators reportedly seized approximately 275 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 60 grams of suspected cocaine and/or fentanyl compound, and more than 200 prescription pills. Packaging materials consistent with drug trafficking were also recovered from the home.

The Drug Task Force credited the Belmont County Criminal Interdiction Unit and the Bridgeport Police Department for their investigative work, noting that cooperation between local, state, and federal agencies remains critical in disrupting large-scale drug trafficking organizations.

Authorities also thanked multiple law enforcement agencies for their assistance, including the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office, Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office, Salem Police Department, East Liverpool Police Department, Lisbon Police Department, Columbiana Police Department, Liverpool Township Police Department, Wellsville Police Department, and Ohio Adult Parole.

No additional charges have been announced as of publication, and the investigation remains ongoing.
