Bedford County, Va. — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian early Friday on Waterlick Road.

According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at 12:29 a.m. Friday, March 6, near the intersection of Waterlick Road and Valleywood Drive in Bedford County.

Investigators say a vehicle believed to be a 2019–2021 Ford Expedition was traveling east on Waterlick Road when it ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a mailbox, and then hit a pedestrian.

The driver did not stop at the scene and continued driving after the crash, authorities said.

The pedestrian was identified as Robert Lee Dresser Jr., 57, of Thaxton, Virginia. Police said Dresser died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

According to state police, the suspect vehicle is expected to have damage to the passenger-side grille and a missing passenger-side mirror, which investigators believe may have been broken during the collision.

Troopers are asking for the public’s help in identifying the vehicle or driver involved.
