Bear, Delaware – A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a May armed robbery in Bear, prompting renewed attention to a shopping center incident that allegedly involved a stolen vehicle.
According to Delaware State Police, 20-year-old Daviel Aviles of Middletown was arrested following an investigation into a robbery reported May 19 at approximately 2:15 p.m. at the Salem Center, 1693 Pulaski Highway.
Troopers responded to reports of an armed robbery in the parking lot. Investigators allege the victim was approached while inside a vehicle when a suspect initiated an argument. During the confrontation, a second suspect allegedly displayed a handgun. Police said both individuals worked together to take the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene.
Through investigative efforts, detectives from the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit identified Aviles and another man, Calvin Williams, as suspects. Authorities said members of the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team executed a search warrant at Williams’ residence May 30 and took him into custody without incident.
Police said Aviles turned himself in to Troop 2 on Feb. 19. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 on charges including second-degree robbery (felony) and second-degree conspiracy (felony). Court officials committed him to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $20,500 cash bond.
The investigation remains ongoing. The Salem Center area is frequented by shoppers and workers during afternoon hours, increasing visibility around public safety incidents.
