San Francisco, CA – A coastal storm system is bringing unsettled weather to the Bay Area today, producing gusty winds, scattered rain showers, and dangerous marine conditions, according to the National Weather Service San Francisco/Monterey office.
Forecasters say the low-pressure system is moving inland this evening, enhancing southerly winds and scattered rain showers, particularly across the Bay Area and coastal ranges. Gusts near the shoreline and higher terrain may exceed 30 mph, making for blustery conditions.
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through 3 a.m. Monday for the entire Pacific coast from Sonoma County to Big Sur, where 15–20 foot waves and sneaker wave risks could pose serious dangers to beachgoers. The NWS warns that sneaker waves can strike suddenly and travel farther up the shore than normal, sweeping people into the ocean unexpectedly.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture and decorations, use caution on coastal highways, and avoid walking on jetties, rocks, or near the surf zone through tonight. Boaters and surfers should also prepare for hazardous marine conditions due to the combination of high surf and gusty winds.
The unsettled weather is expected to diminish overnight, with improving conditions and drier skies returning Monday afternoon.
