San Francisco, California – Residents across the San Francisco Bay Area woke up to chilly conditions Sunday morning, with widespread temperatures in the 30s and low 40s, according to the National Weather Service.

In a morning update, the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area/Monterey shared surface temperature observations taken around 5:25 a.m., showing cold readings across both coastal and inland locations. Several inland valleys and higher terrain areas reported temperatures in the mid to upper 30s, while coastal communities generally remained in the low 40s.

Forecasters noted the cold start was especially noticeable away from the immediate coastline, where overnight cooling was more pronounced. Urban areas near San Francisco Bay also experienced cooler-than-average early morning conditions for late December.

No weather advisories were issued with the update, but the National Weather Service highlighted the widespread nature of the chilly temperatures across Northern California.

Residents heading out early were advised to dress warmly, particularly during the morning hours before temperatures gradually rise later in the day.

For commuters, students, and outdoor workers across the Bay Area, the cold morning may add an extra layer of discomfort during early travel and activities.

Additional temperature updates and forecasts are available from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve throughout the day.
