Bartonville, IL – An Illinois State Police (ISP) squad car was struck by a hit-and-run driver Monday night on U.S. 24 at Mendenhall Road in Peoria County, according to officials.
ISP said the crash occurred around 7:24 p.m. on November 3, 2025, as a Trooper conducted a traffic stop with emergency lights activated on the right shoulder of U.S. 24. A black Ford Escape allegedly failed to move over and sideswiped the driver’s side mirror of the parked squad car before fleeing the scene.
According to police, the Trooper was standing outside the vehicle at the time of impact and was not injured. The collision caused minor damage to the squad car, and investigators are now searching for the suspect vehicle involved.
Authorities noted this marks the 13th Move Over Law-related crash involving ISP vehicles in 2025. Last year, there were 27 such incidents statewide, resulting in 12 Trooper injuries and one fatality.
Illinois’ Move Over Law—also known as Scott’s Law—requires drivers to change lanes or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles or any vehicle with flashing hazard lights. Violators face fines between $250 and $10,000 for a first offense, and up to a two-year license suspension if injuries occur.
The investigation into Monday’s hit-and-run remains ongoing.
