Bangor, Maine – Snow will overspread Downeast Maine late tonight, coating I-95 and US-1 before the Saturday morning commute and setting the stage for a potentially stronger storm by Monday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, light to moderate snow will develop this evening across the Bangor region and Downeast communities, continuing overnight before tapering around or shortly after dawn Saturday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Coastal Hancock County, where several inches of accumulation could create slippery conditions on Route 1, Route 3 and surrounding secondary roads.
Most areas from Bangor to Ellsworth and Bar Harbor are expected to pick up 2 to 5 inches by early Saturday, with locally higher totals possible along the immediate coast. Farther north toward Millinocket, lighter amounts closer to 1 to 3 inches are anticipated. Roads will become snow-covered overnight as temperatures remain below freezing.
Attention then turns to Monday and Monday night, when forecasters note increasing potential for a more impactful snowfall across Downeast Maine. Early projections show a chance for 6 inches or more, along with gusty winds that could reduce visibility on exposed stretches of I-95 and coastal highways. Another system may approach by Wednesday, though track and totals remain uncertain.
Drivers should plan for reduced speeds late tonight through Saturday morning and monitor updates as confidence grows in Monday’s system. Additional advisories or warnings could be issued as that storm draws closer.
