Bangor, Maine – Light to moderate snowfall may impact travel near I-95 and I-395 early Wednesday morning following dry but cold conditions through Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, dry weather is expected to continue through Tuesday across much of northern and central Maine. Afternoon high temperatures Monday will range from the mid to upper teens in northern areas to the lower 20s around Bangor, with overnight lows dropping to 0 to 5 below zero north and single digits above zero south.
Snow chances increase Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with the best potential for accumulating snow focused across Downeast Maine and central sections of the state, including the Bangor region. Forecast graphics indicate a notable chance for more than 2 inches of snow, with lower probabilities for totals exceeding 4 inches.
The timing places the greatest impact risk during the Wednesday morning commute, particularly along Interstate 95, Interstate 395, and connecting local roadways. Even lighter snowfall amounts could result in slick pavement due to cold road temperatures following multiple days of below-freezing conditions.
The National Weather Service cautioned that snowfall intensity and placement may vary, and small shifts in the system could affect accumulation totals. Drivers are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and allow extra travel time if snow develops as expected.
Milder temperatures are anticipated Tuesday afternoon, with highs returning to the mid to upper 20s, though conditions may deteriorate again overnight as snow moves in.
Students, commuters, and early-shift workers should be prepared for changing road conditions Wednesday morning, particularly on untreated surfaces and elevated roadways.
