Bangor, Maine – Snow showers will develop across the Bangor region and Down East Maine tonight, coating sections of I-95 and US-1 with up to 1 inch by 7 a.m. Saturday and creating slick spots before sunrise.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, scattered snow showers will mainly affect Bangor and coastal Hancock and Washington counties through early Saturday morning. The probability of at least 1 inch of snow is highest south of Bangor toward Ellsworth and Bar Harbor, while northern Aroostook County sees lower chances.
Slippery roads will develop in bursts of heavier snow.
Drivers along I-95 from Bangor to Millinocket and on Route 1 through Ellsworth could encounter brief visibility drops under one mile in passing snow showers. Untreated secondary roads and bridges may turn snow-covered first as temperatures fall into the 20s overnight.
Attention then shifts to a stronger system Monday into Monday night. A developing nor’easter may bring measurable snow to Down East Maine along with wind gusts over 30 mph, especially near the coast. Gusty conditions could impact travel on US-1 and Route 1A and cause isolated power outages near the shoreline.
What residents should do now: Plan for reduced visibility tonight, slow down on snow-covered roads, and monitor Maine 511 for updated road conditions.
Another round of snow is likely late Wednesday into Wednesday night, possibly mixing with or changing to rain along the coast by Thursday. Snow showers taper Saturday morning, but additional advisories may be issued ahead of Monday night’s system.
