Bangor, ME – A hit-and-run crash on Interstate 395 in Bangor left one driver injured Saturday morning, with a suspect now in custody following a police investigation spanning multiple agencies.
According to Maine State Police, troopers responded around 11:49 a.m. Saturday to I-395 westbound near the Main Street overpass for reports of a two-vehicle crash. Witnesses told investigators a black Ford Mustang allegedly struck a Volkswagen coupe, causing it to spin out, leave the roadway, cross the entrance ramp from Main Street, roll over a guardrail, and down an embankment into a wooded area.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 20-year-old woman from Chester, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities said the Mustang came to a stop in the median after striking a concrete barrier, and the driver was seen walking away from the scene.
Troopers, along with local agencies, canvassed the area but were initially unable to locate the suspect. A tip submitted to the Maine State Police 411 Tip Line, along with a photo, helped identify the vehicle and its registered owner.
On Sunday at approximately 7:40 a.m., officers located and arrested 48-year-old David Harris of Brewer at his apartment. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash with injury, aggravated driving to endanger, failure to make an accident report, and operating without a license.
The crash remains under investigation. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with additional information to come forward.
