Bangor, Maine – Accumulating snow is expected to impact Bangor beginning Tuesday evening, with the most significant impacts occurring late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.

Forecasters expect 4 to 6 inches of snow in and around Bangor, with light snow developing Tuesday evening and becoming steadier overnight. Snow-covered and slippery roads are likely, particularly during the Wednesday morning commute.

Snow totals increase farther inland and west of Bangor. Portions of interior Hancock County and southern Piscataquis County could see 6 inches or more, prompting a Winter Storm Watch for coastal Hancock County from 6 p.m. Tuesday through noon Wednesday. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for central and southern Piscataquis County, southern Penobscot County, and interior Hancock County during the same period.

The National Weather Service notes moderate confidence that the axis of heavier snowfall may shift south and west, which could place Bangor closer to the higher end of projected totals. Snow is expected to taper off Wednesday morning in northern areas between 6 and 9 a.m., and late morning to early afternoon (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) farther south, including the Bangor region.

Officials urge drivers to use caution during overnight and early morning travel, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and elevated surfaces.
