Bangor, Maine – Snow spreading inland overnight is expected to create slick road conditions across the Bangor area for the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow will begin this evening Downeast and expand inland through early tonight. The heaviest snowfall is expected along the coast, where 4 to 6 inches are forecast, while inland locations including Bangor can expect lighter accumulations.
Forecasters say the snow will taper off from north to south overnight, ending by daybreak Monday. Despite relatively modest totals inland, untreated surfaces are expected to become slick as snow accumulates overnight.
The National Weather Service warns that road conditions may be hazardous early Monday, especially on Interstate 95, U.S. Route 1, and local secondary roads. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated streets are most likely to be slippery during the morning commute.
Behind the system, much colder air is expected to arrive Tuesday into Wednesday. Breezy winds will combine with falling temperatures to produce wind chills as low as −20 degrees across northern Maine Tuesday night, with colder-than-normal conditions extending southward.
The NWS also noted a potential for another snow system Wednesday night into Thursday, though amounts remain uncertain at this time.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and stay alert for changing road conditions Monday morning.
