Bangor, Maine – Residents across much of northern and eastern Maine face another day of oppressive heat, with temperatures and humidity combining to push heat index values between 95 and 99 degrees until 8 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service warns the conditions could trigger heat-related illnesses for those spending extended time outdoors.

According to the NWS office in Caribou, the heat advisory covers Northern and Southern Penobscot, Southern Piscataquis, Northern and Central Washington, Interior Hancock, Southeast and Northeast Aroostook, and Northwest Aroostook counties. Cities including Bangor, Caribou, Houlton, Millinocket, Dover-Foxcroft, Calais, and Presque Isle are all in the advisory area.

Officials urge residents to limit strenuous outdoor activity to early morning or late evening, wear light clothing, and drink plenty of water. Those without access to air conditioning should consider cooling centers or shaded locations, and neighbors are encouraged to check on vulnerable individuals.

The intense heat is expected to linger into Wednesday before a cold front brings cooler, less humid air on Thursday.
