Bangor, Maine – Damaging winds and heavy rain are sweeping into Central Maine this Saturday as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 8 p.m., posing a threat to drivers and outdoor events from Bangor to the Central Highlands.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, storms are building ahead of a cold front, with the primary hazards being wind gusts up to 60 mph and isolated downpours. The most likely area for storm development includes Bangor, Millinocket, and surrounding communities.

The front is expected to stall just offshore by tonight, but an additional low-pressure system will push more rain and showers into Downeast areas on Sunday. Northern regions could dip low enough for patchy frost by Monday night, especially in elevated areas like Caribou and Houlton.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, and remain weather-aware. Cooler, dry air will dominate next week, with below-average temperatures expected across the state.

Storm alerts remain active through tonight, and additional advisories may follow as the pattern continues into early next week.
