Washington, DC – A frosty start across the region will give way to a mild and pleasant fall weekend, capped by increasing warmth and a chance for rain late Sunday. The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington reports that frost advisories and freeze warnings were in effect early Friday morning for areas west of I-81, including Winchester, Harrisonburg, and Cumberland, where lows dipped into the 20s and 30s.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, Friday will stay sunny and cool with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Northeasterly winds up to 20 mph will ease by evening, leading to another chilly night but no additional frost concerns. By Saturday, a shift to southerly flow will bring milder air, with highs climbing into the upper 60s and 70s across much of Maryland, northern Virginia, and the District.
The warming trend peaks Sunday, when afternoon temperatures could approach 80°F before a cold front brings showers and a few rumbles of thunder late in the day. Most rainfall is expected after sunset, with cooler air returning by Monday morning.
Residents are encouraged to protect tender plants through Friday morning and then enjoy a stretch of classic fall weather ahead of the next frontal system.
