Baltimore, MD – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of central Maryland, northern Virginia, and the Washington, D.C. metro area tonight, with forecasters warning of freezing drizzle and light ice accumulation that could make travel hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, the advisory runs from 7 p.m. Friday through 1 a.m. Saturday, covering areas along and east of US-15, including Frederick, Leesburg, Washington, Baltimore, and Fredericksburg. A light glaze of ice is expected, primarily on elevated and untreated surfaces such as bridges, overpasses, and ramps.

Forecasters say lingering low-level moisture and onshore flow will contribute to patchy freezing rain and drizzle, leading to slippery conditions overnight. Even minor icing can create dangerous travel conditions and make sidewalks treacherous for pedestrians.

The National Weather Service urges residents to exercise caution if driving or walking late tonight and early Saturday morning, especially in shaded or elevated areas where surfaces may refreeze. Temperatures are expected to hover near freezing before slowly rising above 32°F by mid-morning Saturday.
