Baltimore, Md. – Scattered thunderstorms will remain a possibility across Maryland through Sunday as a slow-moving cold front stalls to the south and heat begins to build again. Afternoon and evening hours will bring the best chance for rain, with storm coverage varying from the mountains to the coast.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, a 20-40% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected today east of the Blue Ridge, shifting west of the ridge Saturday before targeting the Alleghenies and areas north of I-70 on Sunday. While not everyone will see rain, downpours could be brief but heavy, with lightning the primary hazard.
High temperatures will range from the upper 80s to low 90s for most lowland areas, while mountain regions stay cooler in the 70s and low 80s. Lows will dip into the mid-60s to mid-70s depending on elevation. Those with outdoor weekend plans should keep an eye on radar and move indoors if thunder is heard.
The risk for storms will ease by Sunday night as temperatures climb into the low to mid-90s for much of the region early next week.
