Baltimore, MD – The mild fall weather wrapping up the week won’t last long — a much colder pattern is on the way for the Mid-Atlantic, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Baltimore/Washington.

After a pleasant Saturday with highs in the mid-60s to low 70s, a cold front will bring rain showers on Sunday, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures and gusty winds by Monday.

The NWS said conditions will turn cold and blustery early next week, with highs Monday only in the 40s east of the Blue Ridge and upper 20s to 30s across the higher terrain. Snow showers are expected to develop along the Allegheny Mountains, where brief accumulations may occur.

“Rain showers return on Sunday with cold and blustery conditions by Monday,” the agency reported, noting that this pattern marks the start of a colder, more wintry stretch for the region.

Residents in western Maryland, eastern West Virginia, and the Shenandoah Valley should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions Sunday night into Monday morning. Travelers crossing mountain passes may encounter light snow and reduced visibility.

Forecasters expect temperatures to remain below normal through midweek, with continued chances for mountain flurries and frost across interior valleys.
