Fredericksburg, VA – The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington has issued a Freezing Fog Advisory for parts of southern Maryland and northern Virginia, in effect until 9 a.m. EST Sunday, December 7.

Affected areas include Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties in Maryland, and Nelson, Albemarle, Greene, Madison, Orange, Culpeper, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Prince William Counties in Virginia.

Forecasters warn that visibility may fall to one-quarter mile or less, and sub-freezing temperatures could lead to slick surfaces on roads, bridges, and sidewalks. Dense fog combined with icy conditions could make early-morning travel hazardous across portions of the I-95 and Route 29 corridors.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and increase following distance while traveling through foggy areas. Commuters should also be cautious on bridges and elevated roadways, where ice can form first.

Visibility and road conditions are expected to improve after 9 a.m. as temperatures rise above freezing and the fog lifts.

This Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. EST Sunday, December 7, 2025.
