Baltimore, Maryland – Drivers and residents across central Maryland and the D.C. metro are urged to stay alert as a Flood Watch continues for most of the region, with the National Weather Service warning that several rounds of very heavy rain could bring dangerous flash flooding through early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, rainfall rates could reach 2 inches within a single hour, with localized totals of 4 to 6 inches possible by the time storms move out. The heaviest rain is expected this afternoon and evening, affecting counties including Montgomery, Howard, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, and the city of Baltimore. Major roadways like I-95 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway may see water ponding, making travel hazardous during the evening commute.

Flash flooding could quickly impact low-lying neighborhoods, creeks, and urban streets, with scattered road closures possible. Residents should monitor alerts, avoid flooded roads, and be ready to move to higher ground if warnings are issued. This system could bring the area’s highest rainfall totals since last summer’s storms.

The Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. Friday, and more advisories may follow if rainfall rates increase.
