Baltimore, MD – Skies are expected to gradually clear across the Baltimore–Washington region this afternoon, allowing temperatures to climb into the 40s and 50s.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, lingering cloud cover from earlier today will slowly move out, making way for increasing sunshine as the afternoon progresses. As clouds thin, temperatures will respond by rising to near-normal late-December levels.
Forecast highs range from the upper 30s to lower 40s in northern Maryland and higher elevations, including areas near Westminster and Hagerstown, while much of central Maryland and northern Virginia will reach the mid-40s to lower 50s. Portions of the Shenandoah Valley and south-central Virginia may briefly touch the low to mid-50s.
Winds are expected to remain light, helping create relatively comfortable conditions compared to recent colder days. No precipitation is forecast, and road conditions are expected to remain dry through the evening commute.
While today’s weather offers a quiet break, temperatures will cool again after sunset. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the 30s across much of the region, with some colder pockets dipping into the upper 20s in sheltered inland areas. Drivers traveling late tonight or early Sunday morning may notice a chill compared to the mild afternoon.
The National Weather Service notes that this pattern reflects seasonal winter variability, with mild afternoons followed by colder nights. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers and take advantage of improved weather conditions for outdoor activities before temperatures drop again overnight.
No hazardous weather is expected today, but residents should continue monitoring forecasts for changes heading into the upcoming week.
