Baltimore, Maryland – Cold and windy conditions are expected to impact the Baltimore area Thursday, with brisk northwest winds and below-normal temperatures continuing through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington.

Forecasters say northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph, will develop today as cold air continues to move into the region. These winds will make temperatures feel colder than actual readings, especially during the afternoon hours.

High temperatures Thursday in the Baltimore metro area are forecast to range from 26 to 35 degrees, while colder conditions persist in the higher elevations west of the city. Lingering snow showers will continue in the Allegheny Mountains, where upslope flow maintains wintry conditions.

Conditions improve slightly Friday, with winds easing to 5 to 15 mph and gusts of 20 to 30 mph still possible at times. Friday’s highs are expected to reach 33 to 42 degrees in urban and bay areas, remaining below seasonal averages.

On Saturday, another system may bring rain or snow showers to the mountains, while Baltimore and central Maryland remain dry. Highs Saturday are forecast to range from 39 to 48 degrees in the metro area, with 30s expected in the mountains. Winds will remain breezy, with gusts up to 25 mph possible.

The National Weather Service notes that below-normal temperatures are expected to persist through the weekend, with additional chances for snow confined mainly to the higher elevations west of Interstate 81.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items due to gusty winds and dress in layers to protect against cold wind chills.

Commuters, outdoor workers, and students in the Baltimore area should prepare for blustery conditions today and continued chilly weather into the weekend.
