WASHINGTON, D.C. – A stretch of crisp, dry fall weather will give way to a damp and breezy close to the weekend as a coastal low lifts toward the Mid-Atlantic. Temperatures remain pleasant Friday before clouds and showers return late Saturday night into Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, the system forming off the Southeast coast will move north toward the Delmarva Peninsula by early next week. Rain is expected to begin spreading inland Sunday morning, accompanied by increasing east winds along the I-95 corridor and the Chesapeake Bay. Gusts near 25 mph may make travel over bridges and exposed highways briefly challenging.

Forecasters expect periods of steady rain through Monday morning, with the heaviest near the coast. Inland areas from Frederick to Fairfax could see lighter totals but still contend with slick roads and reduced visibility. The system will usher in cooler air behind it, with highs early next week dropping into the upper 50s.

Residents should secure outdoor decorations, charge devices, and plan for slower travel Sunday into Monday. Boaters are urged to monitor marine advisories for possible small-craft warnings on the Bay and tidal Potomac. Conditions should gradually improve by Tuesday as drier air returns from the west.
