Baltimore, Maryland – A Weather Alert is in effect as snow continues over the Allegheny Mountains tonight, with gusty winds and falling temperatures impacting the Baltimore–Washington region through early Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, snow will persist across the Alleghenies into early Thursday, while areas farther east, including the Baltimore and Washington metro areas, will see passing clouds and breezy conditions. No widespread snow accumulation is expected east of the mountains.

Southerly winds will continue this evening at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts occasionally reaching 20 to 25 mph. Winds will remain breezy overnight before gradually easing toward Thursday morning.

Temperatures are expected to hold relatively steady this evening, then fall overnight into the upper 20s to mid-30s across urban and bay areas. Mountain locations will be colder, with overnight lows ranging from the upper 20s to mid-30s, depending on elevation and snow cover.

The National Weather Service notes that mountain snow showers may continue intermittently overnight, while lower elevations remain dry but chilly. No additional hazards have been issued at this time, though slick conditions may persist on higher-elevation roadways where snow continues.

Residents traveling west into the mountains late tonight or early Thursday should be prepared for periods of snow and reduced visibility. Elsewhere, commuters may notice a colder, breezy start to Thursday morning.

Another update will be issued if conditions change.
