Baltimore, MD – A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected to move into the Baltimore–Washington region late tonight and continue through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Baltimore/Washington. Forecasters warn that the greatest travel impacts will occur along and west of US-15 and north of I-70, where temperatures will remain cold enough for icy conditions.

The system is forecast to begin between 1–3 AM Tuesday, spreading east toward the Blue Ridge and metro areas through daybreak. According to the NWS, precipitation will gradually end between 9–11 AM east of the mountains, with some lingering until 1 PM elsewhere.

Snow totals will remain light—generally 1–2 inches in northern Maryland and the Blue Ridge, with lesser amounts closer to Washington, Baltimore, and Annapolis. Ice accumulations, however, pose the main concern. Forecast maps show 0.05″ to 0.10″ of freezing rain possible in a broad zone from Frederick County into Carroll, northern Montgomery, and Howard Counties, with isolated pockets higher.

The NWS warns that roads could become slick and hazardous, especially during the Tuesday morning commute, urging drivers to allow extra travel time and use caution on untreated surfaces. Power outages are possible in the hardest-hit areas.

Farther south, including Washington, DC, and much of central Maryland, precipitation may fall mostly as rain with only brief wintry mixing.

Residents across the region are encouraged to monitor local conditions and prepare for delays during the morning hours.
