Baltimore, Maryland – Increasing clouds Saturday will give way to widespread rain Sunday, potentially affecting travel along I-95, I-495, and I-70 across the region.
According to the US National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, high pressure moving offshore will allow temperatures to climb Saturday, with afternoon highs ranging from the upper 40s to mid-50s across Maryland, northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Mountain areas are expected to remain cooler, with highs in the low to mid-40s.
Cloud cover will thicken late Saturday ahead of the next weather system. By Sunday, rain is likely to spread into the area, with daytime highs between 40 and 50 degrees. Some higher elevations west of Frederick and along the I-68 corridor could see periods of snow mixed with rain.
Sunday’s rainfall may lead to wet roadways and reduced visibility, particularly along Interstate 95 through Baltimore and Washington, the Capital Beltway (I-495), and Interstate 66 into northern Virginia. Drivers in western Maryland along I-70 and I-81 could encounter slick conditions if snow develops at higher elevations.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve Monday, with highs between 44 and 53 degrees and clearing skies developing later in the day.
Commuters and weekend travelers are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, especially in mountainous areas where precipitation type may vary.
