Baltimore, MD – Much of central Maryland and the greater Washington region will experience blustery conditions today and Monday as temperatures swing sharply from chilly morning lows to milder afternoon highs. Wind gusts will remain elevated into Monday before easing Tuesday as high pressure builds across the Mid-Atlantic.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, Sunday’s temperatures range from morning lows in the mid-30s to mid-50s across the region, rising to afternoon highs between 40 and 62 degrees, depending on elevation and proximity to the coast. Winds will continue to be a noticeable factor today with breezy to occasionally gusty conditions throughout the afternoon.
Monday brings another round of cool and windy weather. Highs will top out between 35 and 53 degrees, with the chilliest readings in the higher terrain west of the metro. Overnight lows Monday drop sharply into the 22°–42° range, setting up widespread frost and freezing conditions across much of Maryland, northern Virginia, and parts of the eastern panhandle of West Virginia.
By Tuesday, winds diminish considerably as high pressure takes over. Temperatures moderate slightly, with forecast highs between 39 and 55 degrees. A weak disturbance may bring a small chance of light showers in the afternoon or evening, though forecasters do not expect widespread precipitation.
The region’s weather pattern is expected to remain seasonably cool through midweek before a gradual warmup late in the week. Commuters should be prepared for brisk conditions this morning and Monday, particularly in open areas where winds may remain gusty.
The National Weather Service advises residents to secure loose outdoor items and dress in layers to accommodate the significant day-to-night temperature swings.
