Baltimore, MD – The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington DC has issued a Freeze Warning effective from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Saturday, as temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s across portions of central, north central, and northern Maryland, as well as central and northern Virginia.
The warning includes Frederick, Carroll, Baltimore, Montgomery, Howard, and Harford counties in Maryland, along with Stafford, Spotsylvania, Loudoun, and Prince William counties in Virginia.
According to the NWS, sub-freezing temperatures could kill crops and sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Officials advise residents to cover garden plants, bring in potted flowers, and insulate outdoor pipes before temperatures drop overnight.
This will likely be the first widespread freeze of the fall season for the Baltimore–Washington region, effectively ending the growing season in many rural and suburban areas. Forecasters expect a gradual warm-up by Sunday, but Saturday morning’s cold will be sharp and widespread.
