Baltimore, MD – Mild and breezy conditions will give way to rain tonight and a potential wintry mix later this week across the Baltimore–Washington region.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, sunny and breezy weather is expected through midday Wednesday, followed by increasing clouds during the afternoon. High temperatures today are forecast to range from the low 40s to near 60 degrees, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 20s to upper 30s.

Light rain showers are possible late tonight through Christmas morning, though rainfall amounts are expected to remain light. Temperatures on Christmas Day will stay mild, with highs ranging from the mid-40s to low 60s, supporting mostly rain rather than snow for most areas.

A more impactful system is expected Friday, when colder air moves into the region. Forecasters say a wintry mix is likely, especially across northern portions of Maryland and areas closer to the Pennsylvania border, where ice accumulations are most probable. Farther south and east, precipitation may remain mainly rain.

Friday’s high temperatures are expected to range from the low 30s to low 40s, increasing the risk for slick travel in areas that see freezing rain or mixed precipitation. Overnight lows will hover near or below freezing in many locations.

This forecast is especially relevant for holiday travelers, early-morning commuters, and those planning travel Friday, particularly in northern Maryland and higher elevations.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates closely, prepare for potentially icy conditions late in the week, and allow extra travel time if winter weather develops.
