Baltimore, Md. – Strong to severe thunderstorms could sweep across Maryland Saturday afternoon and evening as a powerful cold front pushes into the region. The system is expected to bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and the risk of localized flooding before cooler Canadian air settles in by Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, storms may develop quickly Saturday, especially along the I-95 corridor from Washington, D.C. through Baltimore and north into Harford and Cecil counties. Drivers are urged to use caution with reduced visibility and potential ponding on major roadways including I-70, I-83, and Route 50.
Storms should clear overnight, making way for a sharp drop in temperatures Sunday. Highs will struggle to reach the mid-70s across most of Maryland, a stark shift from Saturday’s muggy upper 80s. Breezy conditions are likely as Canadian high pressure builds in, keeping skies clearer through Monday.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items ahead of Saturday’s storms and avoid unnecessary travel during peak thunderstorm activity. Power outages are possible where winds are strongest.
Cooler, drier weather is expected to hold through midweek, with more seasonal temperatures in place until late week.
