Washington, DC – Heat and humidity will grip the Mid-Atlantic this week, with daily thunderstorm chances building by Tuesday and peaking midweek. The National Weather Service says Wednesday could bring the hottest temperatures and highest storm risk, with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 in the metro and mid-70s to low 80s in the mountains.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, storms Tuesday will be most likely along and west of U.S. Route 15 before spreading more widely Wednesday. Severe weather is possible, especially during the afternoon and evening, with heavy downpours and strong wind gusts.

Thursday and Friday will keep the pattern alive, with highs in the mid to upper 80s and continued afternoon storm chances. Outdoor plans, especially in open areas or near water, should be flexible to account for fast-moving thunderstorms. Commuters should also prepare for slower travel during downpours and reduced visibility.

Storm and heat risks may persist into the weekend, and more advisories could be issued if conditions intensify.
