Nassau, Bahamas – Residents and travelers across the Bahamas are bracing for dangerous conditions as tropical storm warnings remain in effect this weekend, with the National Hurricane Center cautioning of escalating winds and seas that could reach 20 feet by Monday.

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, storm-force winds will begin affecting the northern and central Bahamas by Sunday night, with gusts topping 50 knots and seas steadily building through early next week. Tropical storm conditions are expected to bring widespread showers, isolated thunderstorms, and hazardous marine conditions.

In the Northern Bahamas, winds may shift from the east to southwest at 40 to 45 knots overnight Sunday, producing 10- to 15-foot seas and flooding risks along exposed shores. Central islands including Cay Sal Bank could see sustained winds of 30 to 35 knots Saturday night before intensifying Sunday. Waters east of Nassau face the highest risk of storm surge and destructive waves.

Officials warn that marine travel should be avoided and coastal residents should secure property and prepare for possible power outages. Conditions are likely to remain dangerous into Tuesday, with hurricane-force winds possible in some offshore waters before easing midweek.
