Nassau, Bahamas – Tropical storm conditions are expected to intensify across the Bahamas this weekend, with the potential for hurricane-force winds and dangerous seas by Sunday. Forecasters warn residents and boaters to prepare now, as seas could climb from 6 feet today to over 25 feet in some areas by late Sunday.
According to the National Hurricane Center, tropical storm-force winds of 35–45 knots will spread across southern Bahamian waters Saturday night, with sustained winds possibly reaching 85–105 knots south of 23°N by Sunday afternoon. Northeastern and southeastern swells will also push significant surf into exposed shorelines, raising the risk of coastal flooding and hazardous navigation.
Travel between islands may become impossible due to high seas, and power outages are possible as winds strengthen. Residents should secure loose property, charge electronic devices, and avoid all non-essential marine travel starting Saturday.
The threat will linger through Monday, with tropical storm to hurricane conditions possible in parts of the region until at least Tuesday. Additional watches and warnings may be issued as the storm’s path and intensity become clearer.
